Public Health England (PHE) recently released the results of their latest independent e-cigarette evidence review, in which leading experts independently examined the available scientific data pertaining to the potential health benefits and risks of vaping with electronic cigarettes as well as the public's perception of these benefits and risks.

There’s a lot of information to sift through, but fortunately, we're here to break it all down for you. Without further hesitation, let’s take a look at the information so that we can better understand the facts as they pertain to vaping, the public's perception of these facts, where they coincide, and where they differ.

PHE’s Vape Findings

A study from Public Health England conducted in 2015 brings many facts about vaping into the public eye. One of the biggest claims is that vaping is likely 95% less harmful than smoking and that it poses very little risk to bystanders. In other words, according to their research, vaping is likely far less harmful than smoking, for both you and everyone around you.

Professor John Newton, Director for Health Improvement at PHE said in regards to their latest evidence review, which was published earlier this year, "Our new review reinforces the finding that vaping is a fraction of the risk of smoking, at least 95% less harmful, and of negligible risk to bystanders. Yet over half of smokers either falsely believe that vaping is as harmful as smoking or just don’t know."

This study even finds that those who switch from smoking to vaping are likely to experience substantial health benefits. If you smoke and want to stop, we have some of the most luxurious e-cigs on the market at Vaper Empire and they're all designed to be easy to use, making it simple to switch from smoker vaper, so take a look at our selection if you're ready to make the switch. We also offer some of the best-tasting e-liquids that you’ll find online.

This study also finds that e-cigarettes could have potentially led to over 20,000 people kicking the smoking habit in 2018 alone. That’s a lot of progress in only one year. Similarly, this study associates the rise of vaping popularity with improved successful quit rates and a big drop in smoking rates across the United Kingdom.

Public Health England’s latest report doesn’t support the notion that vaping is a gateway to smoking for youth, and it reinforces the fact that vaping is likely 95% less harmful than smoking. As the popularity of vaping increases, we’ve seen a steady decline in smoking among minors. Furthermore, regular smoking is extremely rare among today's youths and it’s almost entirely confined to those that were already smoking.

The Public Perception of Vaping

Public Health England researched a lot of analytical data in order to accurately depict the known effects of vaping on society. They also went out of their way to see just what society thinks about vaping. Sadly, there’s a lot of misinformation being propagated by those that have been ill-informed or that simply don’t know. We’re here to set the record straight.

PHE’s study states that more than half of the population (44.8%) doesn’t know that vaping is likely far less harmful than smoking. According to Public Health England’s findings, vaping is likely 95% less harmful than smoking, but most people seem to have missed the memo. Furthermore, this study finds that 40% of smokers haven’t given e-cigs a chance.

It seems that many believe vaping to be as harmful as smoking. Many believe nicotine to be the culprit behind the health risks that come with smoking, and because many e-liquids contain nicotine, they associate this risk with vaping as well. Less than 10% of adults understand that the majority of the risk associated with cigarettes is not due to nicotine.

According to PHE’s research, nicotine has very little to do with these health risks. The risk is primarily in the smoke itself, which carries 70 different chemicals that are known to cause cancer. Nicotine is just one of the many ingredients found in cigarette smoke, and it carries a relatively low risk, especially when compared to the rest of what’s found in cigarette smoke.

Conclusion

Modern science constantly sheds light on the unknown. Vaping, while once a very niche topic, is becoming more approachable due to research like this. According to Public Health England, it’s likely a less harmful alternative to smoking that has the potential to help smokers quit.

The only apparent downside in the study is the public’s exposed perception of vaping. It seems that there’s a lot of misinformation circulating in regard to vaping. It’ll be interesting to see how the public’s perception of vaping evolves over the next several years. For all the best e-cigs and e-liquids available, be sure to visit the Vaper Empire store.
