How Do I Make My Vape Smoke Thicker?

Whilst not everybody wants to be blowing out massive clouds of 'vape smoke,' as some would rather enjoy a simple, subtle experience, there are plenty of people out there who do want to blow massive clouds of vapour. For these people, the ones want to blow the biggest, thickest, and densest clouds possible, there are some tips and tricks that can help!

Blowing thick clouds of 'vape smoke' isn't a case of inhaling as much as possible, though. There is a bit more to it than that. It requires the right products and technique to do it, and, in this article, we are going to explain how you can do it for yourself.

But First, Let's Talk About 'Vape Smoke'

One thing that we always like to correct is the use of the term 'vape smoke' because it is factually incorrect. Many people call vapour 'vape smoke' because it looks like cigarette smoke, however, the two could not be any more different.

The 'smoke' that is produced by vapes is not actually smoke; it is vapour. To see what the difference between the two are, we need to look to their definitions.

What is Smoke?

Smoke is "a visible suspension of carbon or other particles in the air, typically one emitted from a burning substance" by its literal definition.

To create smoke, you need to combust (burn) something. When combustion takes place, oxidation creates new chemicals and other by-products. This is why cigarette smoke (and any other smoke for that matter) is harmful; it contains thousands of chemicals and toxins that harm our lungs and can cause cancer.

Some of these include:

  • Arsenic
  • Chromium
  • Cadmium
  • Methanol
  • Acetylene

What is Vapour?

Vapour vapor is "a substance diffused or suspended in the air, especially one normally liquid or solid" by definition and materially different to smoke.

Chemicals found in vapour are the same as those found in the substance that has been vaporised. So, e-liquid vapour contains vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol (two chemicals the FDA considers safe for consumption), natural and/or artificial flavourings, and, often, nicotine.

That's it.

So, stop using the term 'vape smoke'---there is no such thing!

Technically, 'vapour' is incorrect as well, as the vapour that is produced by an electronic cigarette is actually an aerosol that is commonly referred to as vapour.

Is Your Vape Lacking in Vapour Production?

If you have gotten used to vaping and are looking to change things up a bit by having fun with vape clouds, but your vape isn't performing as you expected, there are some tips and tricks you can use to increase the amount that is created.

1. Look at Your Device's Power

In short, the higher the voltage of your device's battery, the more intense your vaping experience will be, and the bigger your vape clouds will be, too. If you have a device with a low voltage (e.g. traditional e-cigs and basic vape pens) then you may struggle to get thick clouds.

Some vapes have adjustable voltage and we will look at one of these shortly.

Also, be wary of upping your vape's voltage. Whilst it will give you a thicker cloud, overdoing it could burn out your vape's coil depending on your device.

2. Look at Airflow, Too

Increasing the device's airflow can also result in bigger clouds. When more air is flowing through your vape, the coil's temperature is kept low and this creates a cooling effect that aids the condensation process.

Again, we will look at a device with adjustable airflow later. Many devices now come with extra air ducts built into their atomisers to help vapers produce bigger clouds.

3. Get the Right PG:VG Ratio

A huge factor when it comes to vape clouds is the PG:VG ratio present in the e-liquid you are using. Depending on the e-liquid, you could see ratios of 50:50, 80:20, and 40:60, for example.

In e-liquid, VG aids vapour production and PG controls flavour, richness, and sweetness. As a general rule of thumb, an e-liquid that has a higher ratio of VG to PG will produce thicker vape clouds whereas an e-liquid with a higher ratio of PG to VG will deliver a harsher throat 'hit'.

Some e-liquids are available with 100% VG. These are designed especially for people who want to produce the thickest vape clouds.

The Best Vape for Thick Vape Clouds

Unfortunately, if your device is not powerful enough or adjustable, you will not be able to produce the thickest possible vape clouds. If you are using a basic e-cig or vape pen, you are unlikely to be able to control your clouds' thickness no matter how hard you try.

Luckily, there are plenty of fantastic vape pens available on the market that are adjustable. Whilst these are not designed solely for the creation of thick vape clouds, a little tinkering with them can give you the desired effect.

The V-Twist by Vaper Empire

This elegant vape pen comes from our very own line of ultra-premium vaping devices. Whilst we don't want to sound too big-headed, we believe that this is one of the best, if not the best, vape pens available anywhere right now.

Super easy to use, it is ready to go out of the box. Simply adjust the voltage and airflow to your desired settings, add a little e-liquid, and you are ready to go.

Speaking of voltage, it can be adjusted between 3.2V and 4.8V. Airflow is adjustable too by opening and closing a small vent between the power button and the e-liquid tank. To get the thick clouds that you desire, turn up the voltage and close the vents. It's that simple!
