Many of us who have been involved in the electronic cigarette industry for years already know how amazingly effective e-cigarettes are in breaking dependency on tobacco but finally, we have a controlled study that establishes the role of vaping as the method of choice when trying to quit or reduce smoking cigarettes.
The experiment carried out at the University of Auckland, a public research university based in New Zealand, found that after 6 months 57% of e-cigarette users had managed to halve the number of tobacco cigarettes they used compared with only 41% using patches. The results of the study also revealed that most of the participants (657 people in total) found electronic cigarettes to be a more attractive prospect than patches. This is understandable when considering the high cost of pharmaceutical Nicotine Replacement Therapies in comparison to vaping. Despite the study being relatively small, it is the first in a wave of high-quality research currently being undertaken throughout the world.
